Dermarolling / Microneedling / Re: Using makeup after dermarolling

Thank you. This really clears things up for me. It's not that I am ignoring your advice about the 2.0, but I am contemplating all avenues and in this instance, I say 2.0 because even if I don't start out with that, I do believe I will eventually use it, and I would not want to come back to the forum and bother you once again with the same question regarding the 2.0, and also, a 2.0 derma stamp, which you did advise that I use, presents the same issue. I hope you didn't take offense, because I really do value your advice. I am well aware that as a vendor, you have to stay on the conservative side to protect yourself and your business, and while I can certainly appreciate that, I am more interested in your logic behind the suggestions so that I can make my own judgment on how risky it is. You have certainly done this and provided me with just what I was looking for, so thank you again.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I forgot to ask something. As I understand it from this and other forums, the holes in the face close within an hour or two (which is why you need to immediately apply topicals), even with longer needles. This being the case, why is makeup an issue for 24-48 hours? If it is only due to irritating the outer layer of the skin, I think that is much less risky than if it were to reach below the epidermis, like, if you apply makeup immediately after rolling. You state above that your concern is mainly with pigmentation and infection. How is this possible if the skin closes after a few hours?

Can you advise of any primers/undercoatings/disinfectants that could be put under makeup to diminish absorption (I use natural powder makeup)? I ask this because I live with my boyfriend and it is almost impossible to get him to understand the dermarolling process and the fact that I have to stay out of public for a full weekend. In other words, if I roll Friday night and a friend calls on Saturday asking us to come have dinner with them, he will agree to it and not even bother asking me. It may sound like I am fishing for relationship advise, but I am not. I have accepted this and know that if I want to dermaroll I will have to compromise on the makeup situation. I refuse to go around anyone without makeup when my face already looks terrible and is red and irritated. So, having said this, do you have any suggestions for me to minimize the bad effects of the makeup? I will be using a 2.0 dermaroller on Friday night and will sometimes need makeup by Saturday afternoon. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I would like to say that I have used the Dr. Numb numbing cream and find it 100% effective. If you leave it on for the full 2 hours covered with some plastic wrap, it completely numbs the area (for me anyways). I have a very low pain tolerance and I could not even use the 1.0 without pain, but have done 2.5 with the numbing cream, so trust me, this it is the real deal. The effects don't last as long as I would like, so I cannot do the entire face at once, but I can roll one entire side of the face painlessly after applying the numbing cream.

Hi there. I read raving reviews of your site and after much research, I have ordered about $200 worth of your products including multiple dermarollers, single needles, suction device and topicals. I have extremely bad acne scarring on my face. I have at least 50 scars of multiple depths and scar types. I am really excited and optimistic about the dermaroller and I want to use it as much as possible while still being safe. I have used a 2.5 dermaroller twice over the past few years (I've been lazy). I have seen results, but after reading that 2.5 is likely to hit subcutaneous tissue and cause further scarring, I discontinued its use and ordered your 2.0, 1.5, .5, .2, 2.0 dermastamp and single needles. My question pertains to using the dermarollers of varying lengths and how often to wait between treatment. Since I don't know of a short way to phrase this question, I have been unsuccessful in finding a direct answer online. Below is my treatment plan based on my research and common sense. I would love to get your opinion.

I will start with the 2.0 dermaroller everywhere except my forehead, and temples, where I will use a 1.5. Of course, I realize that with the 2.0 I need to wait 4-6 weeks between treatment (I intend to wait the full 6), but as I understand it, that is only between treatments for the 2.0. My plan is to wait 2 weeks after rolling with the 2.0 and then begin using the .2 3 times a week for one week (for product penetration). Then, after that, I will take another week off and only use topicals. After that, it will have been 4 weeks since treatment with 2.0. Beginning on the fourth week, I plan to use the .5 dermaroller once or twice in that week, and then the .2 once or twice in the final week (to pre-treat the skin with retin-a for the next serious session), then I will repeat the procedure, only this go around, I will use the single needles and dermastamp first, then wait 2 weeks, and follow the same regimen as above. I realize this may be a confusing explanation, but basically I just want to know if it is okay to use the smaller needle sizes in between the more aggressive treatments as long as I give a little break right after the initial rolling and right before starting the next treatment session. Any help or advise you can offer will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!
