Hypopigmented scar treatment
« on: June 14, 2011, 08:48:49 PM »
I have a large curling iron burn that is about 6 weeks old on my breast.  The skin is healed flat and I am left with hypopigmented skin and am very upset.  I am thinking that I will do the single needling (even tho the area is large, I read that the single needle shows better results for this?) followed by the .5 dermaroller to do a pigment transplant.  Would you recommend this treatment?  Also, is the scar too fresh?...how old do you recommend the scar to be?  There are also two red, flat scars where the skin did blister...should I avoid those spots or also needle there?

Thank you for any help!

I certainly recommend this needling and dermarolling approach for hypopigmented scars.  Very good choice.  I think you should wait at least two more weeks before you start.

You can needle the red spots as well but only if there are no blisters or scabs any more.

Thank you for your reply.  I just have a few more questions:

Is there a place that you recommend to take the pigment transfer from?  A place that works better than others?

Also, how often would you recommend that I do the pigment transfer and needling/rolling? Should I roll and pigment transfer each time or alternate between needling/rolling and pigment transfer?

I am so grateful that there is at least something I can do at this point.  Something to at least give me hope.

Laura.

Actually: Do only the needling for the first few sessions. Needling itself should produce, or "wake up " melanocytes and the color will likely revert more or less to normal.

If you do not achieve it with needling, try melanocytes transfer with the 0.5 mm dermaroller. There is no particular place to take them from. The thigh, hip or abdomen would be good. Anywhere where you know your skin tans very well. Just do not take it from the buttocks or the back since the skin is too thick there and a 0.5 mm dermaroller might not reach the bottom of the epidermis where the melanocytes reside.
