Title: Itchy scalp after rolling for Minoxidil
Post by: mary 332 on April 29, 2013, 02:38:40 PM
Dear Sarah,

I bought dermaroller from your site a week a so ago.I ordered 0.5 mm as I saw your recommendations. I do it every day before minoxidil5%. But every time i get very itchy scalp.I can hardly stand it.What should I do? May be it is because I do it in various directions?
please advise. dermaroller seems to be my last hope.as I'm losing much hair and doctors only suggest minoxidil...

Thank you in advance,
Mary

This is a very common problem. Minoxidil often contains alcohol and it is the alcohol that causes an itchy scalp.

"Common side effects of minoxidil include burning or irritation of the eye, itching, redness or irritation at the treated area"

"Alcohol and propylene glycol present in some topical preparations may dry the scalp, resulting in dandruff and contact dermatitis.[7] Some formulations of minoxidil substitute lipid Nanosomes in order to reduce contact dermatitis from the alcohol and propylene glycol vehicle.[8][9]"

Dermarolling highly enhances the absorption of Minoxidil and that likely increases its side effects but the main problem is the alcohol or the other substances that the Minoxidil formulation contains, not dermarolling or your dermarolling technique.
