Dear Geijutsu12:

Your and other people inputs are always welcome, especially someone with similar skin and skin conditions as mine. I shouldn't have made the post so exclusive. So, if anyone reading this, please comment, especially someone with similar skin conditions. Your experience can help me and others who's reading this post.

Thank you for the advice on the roller, stamp, and topical products usage--they are very helpful! I am actually taking many dietary supplements daily. I am eating as much whole food as much as I can. I am reducing the portion of food because I don't burn them as much as my younger years. I also start to exercise again.

Thank you for the compliment! I think I owe my great skin to my mom. She has GREAT skin for her age! I hope to improve mine with derma rolling.

Geijutsu12:  How long have you been derma rolling? How many sessions did you do before you start seeing results? What is your protocol? Every 3-4 weeks, roll with 1.5mm and stamp deeper scars with 1.5mm? How many rolls do you do per area? How many stamps do you do per deeper scars? Do you use 1.5mm roller on your forehead too? Do you roll with 0.5mm in between the 3-4 weeks of 1.5mm treatment?

Hi futureperfect,

Sorry for not replying to you earlier, to answer your questions:

So far I had only two skin needling sessions, the first one was in I think October 2012 and the second one was in mid December 2012, for the first time, I wasn't that aggressive as I was sort of testing the water and see how things go since I already have a very sensitive skin, I saw little improvement in the skin texture overall but it was still not what I wanted it to look like, by the time the second session came; I decided to be a little more aggressive, so instead of only using the 1.5 dermaroller, I decided to roll some areas with mild problem and dermastamp (both large and small) the problem areas, I made sure that I bled a lot, as Dr Desmond (father of dermaroller) claims that by bleeding you get better results, well by the end of the 1st month I had a great improvement in my skin texture, my sister came to visit and she could not stop talking about how much better my skin looks, to say that I was happy is an understatement.

In late March this year I noticed that I had very faint post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation from few zits I had earlier so I thought it would be a smart to go ahead and use a BHA peel, it was a huge mistake, most of the creppy scarred skin surface came back and my skin got exactly back to how it used to look like pre-needling if not little worse, it was a dumb move on my part as the reason why I have these scars in the first place was because I used bha toner 2 years ago that dried my skin too much and created those small cracks/craters between my pores, I thought by using the peel I will not be having the same problem since you get to wash it off 3 minutes later.

Anyway, I'm planning to needle again but I find it hard atm due to job schedule, my skin usually needs a minimum of 3 days of downtime and I only get to have 1 day off per week in my new job, so not sure how I'm going to be able to fit it within my schedule.

In conclusion, I think you will benefit a lot from needling since we seem to have very similar scarring, as a matter of fact mine is a little worse, all you have to do is be careful and let your skin rest, eat well and have plenty of sleep.

Hi futureperfect,

Not Sarah, but I'd recommend that you purchase a 1.5 dermaroller to needle your face with a 1.5 small dermastamp for localized needling on deeper scars, you scars are very similar to mines, like you I couldn't categorize them because they're not your typical acne scars, they just superficial ones that are formed between the skin pores.

I'd also recommend that you use the Tazorac and the serum separately, for example you can you use serum in the morning, and the tazorac at night, make sure to also use a sunscreen over the c serum, one sunscreen I'd recommend is Pratima is it's zinc-based and leaves little to no white-casting, make sure to also get enough sleep and eat well in order to have better results, if you can afford it; invest in a good multi nutrient supplement, this all will help your skin heal better.

Other than the scarring, I think you have great skin, specially for your age, I actually thought that you might be in your mid twenties max from the picture you posted, very surprised.

Well I promised that I'd keep you posted about my condition, it's been a little over a week now since I had the dermarolling session, skin is doing great and healthy, no lymph problems what-so-ever, everything is back to normal, I would just like to thank you again for assisting me during the past week, you've been a great help.

Yeah, it's pretty brutal, I bled nearly as much as the pictures in this paper, it's day 5 now and things are almost back to normal, I say almost because there is still some very faint reddening mainly on my cheeks, because I have extremely sensitive skin.

I agree I had the same question in mind, so far I did 2 dermarolling session one when I used only a 1.5 dermaroller where I had minimul bleeding, and the other I used a combo of a 1.5 roller and a 1.5 pen and I bled a lot, I think I'll go with the bleeding suggestion, having seen his results, I have to say that they are very dramatic.

He uses a 3mm roller to guarantee bleeding:

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, at the moment there is barely any pimples there, I can barely see them, lymth nodes are still swollen and my tonsils hurt too, but as I said no big deal as long that I won't have to deal with a fever, still eating good and taking vitamin C with glutathione, I'll keep you posted about my skin and health on the upcoming days, thanks again.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks you so much for the prompt and detailed reply, yes I'm the same person who had a short dermaneedling session a few months ago, but I then went on to have a 1.5 skin needling session only with a dermaroller last month with no problems.

I actually did made sure that all of the skin needling equipment were very clean, I first swish them with warm water and anti-bacterial soap and leave them in a glass for about twenty minutes, I then wash them with a water stream and place them for another 30-40 minutes in a 2% Chloramine-T solution, after that I wash them again with a running water stream than let them air dry on a piece of dry, clean tissue paper for another 30 minutes.

I don't think that the infection occurred from the needles themselves, my guess is that the cotton pads I was using to wipe of the blood off my face were contaminated, what I did is that a soaked them in regular tap water then squeezed them to get rid of any extra water and kept them next to the whole time I was skin needling to avoid a bloody mess, the cotton pads are not newly opened and I live in a fairly humid weather, so I think that they might have developed some bacteria or mold in them, so I was basically rubbing all that on my open skin, which got into my blood stream fast.

The good news is that my tiny whiteheads have decreased in both size and number since yesterday, but my lymth nodes still appear to be swollen, at the moment the entire lymph line is swollen from the front of my ear all the way to the bottom of my neck, I don't really mind it as long as my body is doing it's job to fight the infection.

Do you think that I could have set me self to a possible long term heath problem with that mistake, or will it just pass in few days like a regular flu?  what is the possibility that the infection could spread to other parts of my body in the next few weeks?

I'm trying to have restful sleep throughout the night, I'm also taking extra doses of vitamin C and liposomal glutathione and eating already very healthy on a paleo diet, so I hope this all will help the poor lymths to fight the infection effectively.

Thank you again so much for the very detailed explanation and for your superb customer service, it's greatly appreciated, much respect.

Dermarolling / Microneedling / I think I developed an infection

Hi Sarah, yesterday I did a skin needling session using a combo of dermastamping and dermarolling both in 1.5 mm, I made sure that they are sterilized and washed my hands before rolling, I did bleed A LOT during the needling session so I used wet cotton pads to wipe out any blood that seeps out of the skin while needling so that things won't be to messy.

Today, I woke up initially feeling fine, around two hours later I noticed that the lymph node on my left is a tad swollen, as the day progressed I felt that it was getting worse, and to top it off the right one started acting up as well, my face is extremely red and it actually seems to be reacting worse, an hour ago I decided to take a look and I noted that in almost every pores on all of my face is covered with very fine white heads, it's everywhere, and they weren't even there just few hours ago, and I'm very scared to be honest, I just hope that they won't be staying for long or grow in size and that they won't be leaving any scars behind, as I did the dermarolling specifically to get rid of old superficial scars, please Sarah let me know if this really is an infection, and what should I do about it, things to be getting worse by the minute, and I'm freaking out.

Hi Sarah,

I am the one who you referred to this thread when I asked you about my scarred/stretched pores, having seen the pictures, do you think my case is more of an enlarged pores case (hard to fix) or is it more of scars all over my pores that are fixable with a 0.2 roller?

Thanks Sarah, it's day two now and my face is still burning, mainly the cheeks.

Sarah,

I just had a 0.2 roller session to enhance product penetration, and it got me kinda worried.

I'm a male with fairly thick skin (no pun intended) yet when I rolled I experienced pain that is almost as intense as rolling with a 1.5 roller, my face got really red, still actually even after 30 minutes, and my skin still kinda rages as I'm sitting writing this, all of the symptons appear to be very similar to what I'd experience if I actually skin needled for trauma and not for product penetration, so I'm confused that the roller may not have just made superficial "pockets" in my skin, but they might have rather went a little deeper.

I'm concerned because I've read on several times -including your site- that rolling with a 0.2 roller shouldn't cause any pain, yet I experienced it fairly while needling.

Is this normal?
