as far as i know tretinoin, copper peptides, and vit- c are not supposed be used together. Theres a recommended 12hr gap between application of each product so they dont interfere with each other.

Im no expert but ill chime in! :)

I believe its cause of skin sensitivity- not a good idea to jump straight in with a 20% solution (I can testify to that)

while 20% may be the optimum for 'maximum absorption in reality thats gonna sting if its ur 1st time applying, also I would  Imagine the fact you have dermarolled prior to application is in some way going to impact absorption greatly.

Also (someone correct me if im wrong) but i believe the minimum the solution needs to be is 10% to get benefits, of course working your way up to what your skin can handle (as long as it not over above 20%)

Hope this helps.

Dermarolling / Microneedling / Re: Add glycerin into my DIY vitamin c

Great response sarah thank you!

very detailed as usual, but I just need clarification a couple of points then and im sorted :)

you said vit c can be washed off after 30 mins- however are we doing an injustice by not waiting longer? for example do we know if most of the vitmain c has been absorbed as much as its going to.... say in the first 30 mins...

or if leaving it on for 60 mins is going to be 2x as effective for absorption than 30 mins?

I would prefer to wash it off, i just dont want to wash it off knowing if it was left for 1 or 2hrs it would be far more effective.

Sorry this part lost me :(

''RESULTS:
…Clinical assessment demonstrated significant improvement with active treatment greater than control for fine wrinkling, tactile roughness, coarse rhytids, skin laxity/tone, sallowness/yellowing, and overall features. Patient questionnaire results demonstrated statistically significant improvement overall, active treatment 84.2% greater than control. Photographic assessment demonstrated significant improvement, active treatment 57.9% greater than control''

I am interested in the protection of future damage, however I would like to clarify the situation regarding past damage also.

is the general message in the quote above that.......... yes around 60% saw significant 'age reversal' however 84.2% still saw a relevant degree of anti ageing result,

and this was shown through photographic UV assessment?

my apolgies  :-\

thanks in advance.

Hi sarah,

First off im a big fan of you and your site and regularly buy from your site, I love the way your site and advice is science based.

I was hoping you could add some input.

 I recently read the following:

''vtamin C does not work in everyone For reasons that are not yet known, Ascorbic Acid at a good concentration does not work in everyone. It may only be 60% of the population who get the age reversing benefits of vitamin C. Some people who do not respond to Ascorbic Acid however still get anti-aging benefits from the newer vitamin C derivatives. (Discussed later). Vitamin C, however is a potent antioxidant and you still should get the benefits of protection from UV induced cell damage even if it does not keep you looking younger.''

This is contrary to what I believed and is quite discouraging! thats nearly half of all people who use vit c will not get the effects of UV damage reversal.

They go on to add the following:

''vitamin C derivatives are more stable, less expensive and effective at lower concentrations There are newer derivatives of Vitamin C: Ascorbyl palmitate, Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, and some of these are proving as effective as ascorbic acid in collagen stimulation. Refer Smartskincare an excellent science based skin care site. These derivatives are effective in lower concentrations, are more stable and less expensive and as such may be a better choice. There is a battle among some of the big cosmetic houses as to which is most effective but the newest Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate if particularly promising, and seems to work in some people who are resistant to Ascorbic Acid.''

so I have a couple of questions im hoping you can assist with:

1, how do we determine if vit c really is working for us (evidence wise) the only way I can think of is to get a UV analysis of the face, then use only vit c for 6 months (and do not use dermaroller or retin A) for a conclusive result?

2, whats ur opinion on the derivatives? is there enough science out the yet to support this? perhaps a solution that combines some of the above mentioned alternatives such as Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate might be a safer bet?

3, do u think you'll be selling any derivatives anytime soon im sure if the above statement is true then a lot of people will want to make serums with derivatives involved also just to be on the safe side? this would remove most doubt from

from minds when regarding UV damage reversal. surely if the evidence is there, then a combination of  vit c sources would most likely be raise the percentage of it working for everyone and certainly diminish the impractical side also of using the serum.

and of course this will then open up discussions on mixing and recipes and advice from yourself im sure will be contributed, which is always appreciated.

4, personally I find vitamin c quite harsh on the face as i have sensitive skin (even at low strength), and impractical as it has to be left on overnight and is sticky and leaves whites residue on the face, id prefer to wash it away after 30 mins or so
can i do that? will it has absorbed even by that time, or is there no science on this yet?

thanks in advance Sarah.

Dermarolling / Microneedling / Copper peptides
« on: January 15, 2011, 01:23:10 PM »
im absolutely speechless i never thought the pickharts copper peptides where a scam, I thought there was solid independent evidence and study s to suggest his stuff worked. I was up untill recently using 'protect and restore' on my face and a surgical scar, but after reading this i think they are only good for the bin! unless Dr. pickhart has a reply?

ho sarah great reply,

thats helps alot, well i figure im gonna be a cheeky chappy and ask for a little more advice.by the way hope you enjoyed your break away!

Ive been doing alot of reading and research in general so i have a couple of questions

1,

first off just to underunderstand you fully, your saying i can use a roller up to 0.25 mm roller in lengh for product penetration 3x a week, its ok to do this even though every 6-8 weeks im rolling with 1.5 mm? these rollers can be used in conjunction without negative effects correct?

2, concerning the vit c, ive read that it has to be of a certain concentration/strengh in order to have any chance of penetrating ther skin, somewhere around 13 or 15% i think (I cant remember exactly) so my question yes the vit c always stings  me when i put it on,(maybe cause i use retin a regulary!) but anyway wouldnt this mean i cant dilute it as it would fail to penetrate the skin barrier?

3, Ive read that vit c and retin a can cancell each other out so to speak, so its best to space these 2 products apart (around 12 hours) maybe useing the retin a in the night (as uv breaks it down)wash it off in the moring and apply vit c in the moring also! have you any take on this?.

4, Ive read alot about positive and negative effects of dr pickarts copper peptide! people are experiencing what they re calling 'the uglies' basically where the skin has a negative effect to the peptide! I have some resevations about useing the mask you sell because its quite highly concentrated, any thoughts on this?

5, youll be glad to know this is my final question, concerning daily skin care what do you think of this regime,

NIGHT- 1, cleanse 2, tone (wait half an hour)3, apply retin a (wait half an hour)4, apply a moisturiser (latley ive been useing your infadolin would you regard this a moisturiser as such)

MORNING-  1, wash of retin a, 2, Apply vit c (wait half an hour) 3, Moisturise

thanks for your time, its  always appreciated

p.s     any intentions to sell emu oil? im hearing alot of good things about it as a moisturiser

hi sarah love your site, and your approach in general!

I ve been useing ur dermaroller for a couple of months and read through all the posts yet i still cant work out the perfect regime for use of the roller concerning, prior, during, and post useing this product. I should add ive read the instruction and FAQ.

i use single needles on a surgery scar, and a roller on the face, every 6-8 weeks, here's what i do!

for about 2 weeks prior to needling i dry brush  3x a week  (only my surgery scar)  useing an old toothbrush (plastic) and apply your vitamin oil cream 1x per day post dry brushing.

Then when it comes round to  dermarolling useing your 1.5 mm roller, I do as instructed, and for post care  I apply vit c, a half hour later I apply by your vit oil cream, I continue to apply vit c about 3x a week for 2weeks post useing the roller, but use the vit oil cream 3x a day for 2weeks post dermaroller.

I have now purchased your skin copper peptide product i just feel quite confused:(. I should mention im a male (32 yrs old) so im not used to this kind off stuff, but i have made a genuine attempt to get this  right. I have a lot of sun damage on my face, broken cappilaries, veins, hypopigmentation, and fine lines, (Im useing retin A to treat these issues for a number of yrs, but have to admit i really dont see a difference)

anyway my point is i am commited to making my skin better and so this is why i am asking for your advice! If you have awnsered a question similar to mine, please provide a link, so as to not bother you any further. Eessentially Im asking you for a plan on how to incorporate these products i have bought from you,  i.e. the  roller, vit c,vit oil, & copper peptide. (it doesnt matter if it is a demanding regime as i stated i am commited) I would like to give this a fair crack of the whip.

In the mean time i will keep reading again and again.thanks love your site.:D
