Dermarolling / Microneedling / Re: What are your stamping routines?
« on: May 20, 2013, 11:04:10 AM »
To Sypherr:
How to prepare the skin, how to sterilize and store microneedling instruments, how many times to stamp is explained in our free pdf.  If you do not want to prepare your skin with vit. C as I suggest, it is up to you to decide what to use instead.

This person (his email address does not appear in our customer database) has now been banned from our forum (reading as well as posting) for repeated rudeness.

The Dermajet is very suitable for tummy-tuck and other surgery or accident scars or stretch marks but if you have only one scar and you're not going to need other needle lengths somewhere else on the body, buying a 1.5 mm dermastamp with 35 needles will be much cheaper for you. The dermastamp will eventually get blunt and you have to replace it but even two dermastamps are much cheaper.

If the scar is rather thick, apply our 0.1% Tretinoin cream right after stamping to soften the hardened collagen of the scar. On top of Tretinoin cream, apply our Infadolan ointment. Do not stamp the scar sooner than six weeks after the scar was formed.

If the scar is raised, perform the pressure massage described here:

https://http://forums.owndoc.com/dermarolling-microneedling/what-to-do-about-hypertrophic-scars/msg4877/#msg4877

Concerning hyperpigmentation, the Dermajet can be used (you should set up the needle size for 0.5 mm) but if the pigmentation is all over your face, it will be much quicker to roll it with a regular 0.5 mm dermaroller (up to three times a week) and then apply hydroquinone cream:

https://http://forums.owndoc.com/dermarolling-microneedling/african-american-pigmentation-1161/

You can also try the Tretinoin cream (it helps very much with post acne spots) but the 0.1% that you need for your surgery scar is too strong for the face so mix it with another cream (any cream you like) to dilute the percentage (or buy our 0.5% Tretinoin cream and use it both for your face and for your scar).

The most serious/dark post acne spots should be stamped with a 1.5 mm dermastamp every three weeks in addition to your 0.5 mm dermarolling sessions. Again, you can use a Dermajet but a 1.5 dermastamp with 35 needles is perfectly OK and suitable as well. The dermajet becomes cheaper than dermastamps & rollers when comitting to a multi-year needling regimen or when planning to buy many different rollers/stamps.

Dermarolling / Microneedling / Re: Strawberry short nose...

What skin condition are you trying to improve on you cheeks and forehead?

Do not use dermarolling on your nose. Most likely you have just enlarged pores and dermarolling does not help with that.  For blackheads, try this:

I do not think you have any icepick acne scars. You have just a few scars and in fact you have small pores because your photo is enlarged so in reality, your pores are small.

For your nose scar and your other scars, you can try a 1 mm dermastamp. Stamp them every 10-14 days.

However, on your nose, ignore our instructions about making 6-8 stampings into the same scar during a session. Make just one stamping. If it heals OK, do two stampings the next session. If it heals OK, make three the next session etc.

Concerning your pigmentation, which is also quite mild, first try our 0.5% Tretinoin cream. If there is no improvement in 4 months, add hydroquinone cream:

https://http://forums.owndoc.com/dermarolling-microneedling/african-american-pigmentation-1161/

If there is no improvement with hydroquinone, start applying it after dermarolling with a 0.5 mm regular dermaroller.

Taking into account how enlarged your photos are, your skin is nice with just a few scars and some pigmentation.

In some rare cases, there can be a thin layer of skin grown over a previous scar. The thin layer "camouflages" the scar but the scar is there underneath. Stamping or rolling can "uncover" the underlying damage.

No, I do not think your A+D cream has anything to do with it.

For best penetration, do not mix hydroquinone with anything else. Apply it separately and right after dermarolling.

Tretinoin is quite irritating if applied right after dermarolling. Especially if applied on the face. It is gentler to the skin to apply it without dermarolling.

The bumps are temporary and they will disappear. It is certainly not a standard reaction after dermarolling but we had a few reports from our customers about getting bumps. In most cases they got bumps only after the third or fourth rolling. In all cases, the bumps disappeared and left no traces. The skin will get used to dermarolling.

Every three to four weeks.

You do not have to needle or stamp all your scars during the same session. If you have many scars, stamp one cheek, when it has healed, stamp the other etc.  Just write down the dates of stamping so that you do not stamp the same cheeks more frequently than once every three weeks.

Yes, you stamp straight down. All your other questions are answered here:

Hi Michiko,

I have not forgotten this posting. I have to think about an answer.  I am sorry you have to wait. I will answer it tomorrow.

You can safely roll and stamp in the behind-the-knee area.

You can roll over the vein but if possible, avoid doing this with a dermastamp.  A dermastamp reaches deeper than a dermaroller of the same size.

The single needles are approx. as long as a 2 mm dermastamp but they penetrate a little deeper because it's only one needle. So the approach is more targeted in several ways. You can also first needle the scars with the single needle and then stamp them or roll them (during the same session). A combination of various dermarolling tools is sometimes more successful.

Thank you, Discosharona, for your comment.

Ad1. You can but it is better to make the frequency 3 weeks apart (not 2 weeks apart). Stamp, 3 weeks later roll, 3 weeks later stamp etc.

When you combine a dermaroller and a dermastamp during one session, it is easier to first stamp the scars and then roll the whole area. You can also first roll and then stamp but the scars usually get red and swollen after dermarolling and that makes them less "visible" to precisely target them by stamping.

Yes, you can slightly reduce the number of stamps and rolls when you combine it. Stamp only 6 times.
You do not have to stamp and roll your entire face in one go if you prefer. Stamp and roll just one cheek, when it heals, stamp and roll the other, when it heals stamp and roll the forehead etc.

Yes, you seem to have more than one kind of pigmentation.

So far, there is hardly anything more affective for pigmentations than good old hydroquinone cream.  Apply it right after rolling with your 0.5 mm dermaroller to highly enhance its penetration.  Hydroquinone does not remove current melanin pigment but it prevents/reduces the formation of new melanin so you have to use it long term to see effect.

Hydroquinone is available over-the-counter in 2% concentration and in prescription formulas in 4% concentration. We do not sell hydroquinone cream.

Ambi fade cream contains 2% concentration of hydroquinone, it also contains  soy protein and lactic acid.

Swissclinical whitening serum actually does not contain hydroquinone. It contains another whitening agent. Ingredients: 2% Alpha-arbutin lightening agent (blocks epidermal melanin biosynthesis.) Combined with bellis perennis (daisy) flower extract and Japanese mulberry tree extract.

I also recommend our 0.5% Tretinoin cream.  It helps with pigmentations. Apply it every second day (without dermarolling).

Concerning any pigmentation, the most important factor to prevent it or reduce it is very good and systematic sun protection, otherwise the pigmentation will re-appear.

Yes, you can definitely use the single needle instead of a dermastamp.
